This 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT was sold new through Stoddard Imports of Highland Heights, Ohio. Following time in storage, chassis AR614537 underwent mechanical work under previous ownership in the mid-2010s before being sold on BaT in November 2017. The car was subsequently dismantled as part of a planned project begun in 2018 that was featured as a BaT success story in June 2018. Work since then has involved soda-blasting the body and re-coating it in epoxy primer as well as powder-coating various suspension components, replacing the transmission synchros, servicing the rear axle, and refurbishing the fuel tank. The shell is mounted to a rolling dolly, and retained components include a 1,570cc twin-cam inline-four, Weber carburetors, a five-speed manual transmission, 14″ steel wheels, Veglia gauges, and black vinyl–trimmed seats. This Stepnose project is now offered at no reserve in New York by 1600 Veloce, a BaT Local Partner, with a tool kit, spare parts, and an Ohio title.
Early 105-series Giulias featured a “stepnose” front as well as lower rear wheel arches than later models. The Bertone-designed bodywork of this example was stripped to bare metal by American Dry Stripping of Milford, Connecticut, under current ownership. The shell is mounted to a rolling dolly and has been refinished in epoxy primer and sanded.
The stripped cabin is finished in epoxy primer. A split-spoke steering wheel, Veglia gauges, and black vinyl–trimmed seats will accompany the car and can be viewed in the gallery. The removed five-digit odometer shows 31k miles.
The 1,570cc twin-cam inline-four was factory rated at 105 horsepower. The Weber 40 DCOE 4 carburetors were reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership.
The five-speed manual transmission was fitted with replacement synchros by the selling dealer.
The rear axle was fitted with new bearings and seals under current ownership. The fuel tank was also cleaned and coated.
Various suspension and chassis components were stripped and powder-coated since the selling dealer’s acquisition.
