This 3D-Printed iPhone Fold Mockup Shows What Apple’s Foldable Might Look Like

Want to see what Apple’s first foldable iPhone might actually feel like in your hands? A 3D designer created a rough iPhone Fold mockup based on the latest rumors, and MacRumors printed it out to compare against current iPhones. The results are surprising. When closed, this thing is tiny, but when open, it’s practically a mini tablet that fits in your pocket.

Compact When Closed, Tablet-Sized When Open

The iPhone Fold mockup measures around 5.4 inches when folded, making it as compact as the discontinued iPhone 13 mini. That’s smaller than every current iPhone, including the regular iPhone 16. Rumors suggest the actual device could land anywhere between 5.3 to 5.5 inches for the outer display, making it genuinely pocket-friendly unlike Samsung’s tall, narrow Galaxy Z Fold.

When opened, the mockup reveals a 7.76-inch display, though Apple’s actual iPhone Fold could measure anywhere from 7.6 to 7.8 inches. Either way, that’s larger than any iPhone display to date and approaches iPad mini territory. The 4:3 aspect ratio creates a book-like shape rather than the stretched format of other foldables, which means watching videos won’t leave massive black bars and multitasking actually makes sense.

This 3D-printed mockup uses a stand-in hinge since no one outside Apple knows what the real mechanism looks like. However, Apple reportedly solved the crease problem that plagues every foldable using laser-drilled metal plates and liquid metal components. If those rumors pan out, the iPhone Fold could be the first foldable with a nearly invisible crease.

The mockup sits at 4.8mm thick when unfolded, though some rumors suggest Apple could go as thin as 4.5mm. When folded, you’re looking at roughly double that thickness. The camera array and other design details remain speculative since Apple is still in engineering validation and stockpiling components like foldable OLED displays from Samsung.

September 2026 Launch With Premium Pricing

Apple is reportedly targeting a September 2026 launch alongside the iPhone 18 lineup, with JPMorgan predicting 45 million units sold by 2028. Pricing is expected around $2,000, potentially lower thanks to Apple’s cost-saving hinge design.

The 3D-printed mockup isn’t perfect, but it shows what Apple might deliver. A compact foldable that actually fits in pockets, unfolds into a tablet-sized screen, and potentially eliminates the crease that plagues other foldables.
