TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A fire razed several firecracker stalls at the Bulanao Public Market, injuring at least two people on new year’s eve, authorities said.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Tabuk City reported that the blaze broke out at around 11:50 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2025, from one of the firecracker stalls.
The initial report said that the fire quickly escalated after fireworks on display ignited, causing the flames to spread rapidly to adjacent stalls.
Ignited firecrackers were also propelled toward nearby residential houses located directly in front of the market area, prompting alarm among residents.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene and extinguished the fire at 12:01 a.m.
Fire Senior Inspector Gilbert Ngaya-an said initial reports indicated that at least 15 firecracker stalls were burned in the incident, while two individuals sustained injuries.
Ngaya-an said that they are awaiting the submission of affidavits of loss to determine the total cost of damage, while their investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
