Miss Universe issues statement denying sale, reaffirms current ownership

MANILA, Philippines — The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) issued an official statement Saturday reaffirming that it remains under its current ownership and leadership, opposing what it described as “false and misleading statements” that suggests the global pageant brand is being offered for sale.

In the statement released Jan. 3, the organization said it found it necessary to address public claims that had “falsely suggested acquisition or purchasing opportunities,” creating confusion about the status of the Miss Universe brand.

“The organization also finds it necessary to address recent false and misleading statements regarding its ownership and leadership. These statements have been made seeking to misrepresent ownership, falsely suggest acquisition or purchasing opportunities, and create confusion,” the MUO said.

“Such actions appear designed to deceive the public, improperly solicit investments, and exploit the Miss Universe brand for personal benefit, visibility, or advantage. In response, the Miss Universe Organization states clearly and unequivocally: The Miss Universe Organization remains under its current ownership and leadership,” it added.

While the statement did not name any individual or group responsible for the claims, it was issued days after businessman and former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson held a press conference in which he discussed his interest in acquiring the Miss Universe Organization and said talks were being considered.

It said it is actively reviewing the matter with its legal advisers and will take “all appropriate and necessary steps” to address and prevent further false, misleading or unauthorized statements or actions.

“The organization remains committed to protecting its integrity, its partners, and the public from deception or misuse of its name, brand, and reputation. As the organization moves forward, it does so with the same vision, leadership, and long-term commitment that have guided its growth and success. This continuity remains fundamental to the organization’s mission, values, and strategic direction,” it added.

The organization said it found it necessary to respond as it enters what it described as “an important chapter” in its history, ahead of the 75th anniversary of the Miss Universe competition which is set to take place November in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fátima Bosch of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event.

The Miss Universe Organization is entering an important chapter in its history as it prepares to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Miss Universe competition, a milestone that reflects decades of global influence, cultural relevance, and an enduring commitment to empowerment. As part of this historic moment, the organization will continue to highlight initiatives, plans, and activities developed in collaboration with its global partners and stakeholders,” they stated.

“Grounded in its legacy and focused on the future, the Miss Universe Organization continues to advance its global mission of women’s empowerment, social responsibility, and community engagement. Through advocacy, education, and philanthropic efforts around the world, the organization remains committed to uniting communities, amplifying women’s voices, and creating meaningful, lasting impact across cultures and borders as it enters this landmark era,” the statement ended.

The organization also encouraged the public to rely solely on its official channels for accurate and verified information, noting that updates regarding leadership and organizational matters are published exclusively on its official website.
