MANILA, Philippines — Education Secretary Sonny Angara doused speculation about his removal from the Cabinet of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after Executive Secretary Ralph Recto told him that there were no moves to replace him.
Angara was subject of an online report that he was among those who would be replaced in a major revamp.
But in a chance interview with reporters in Quezon City on Friday, Angara said that while he has not talked to the President on the revamp, it was Recto and Presidential Management Staff Secretary Elaine Masukat who said that he was not being replaced.
He also thanked Palace Press Officer Clarissa Castro for issuing a statement that “there was no such thing” as a revamp, but was hopeful that he won’t be included in the changes.
Angara also said that he did not want to speculate why his name was always being floated.
“Mahirap magsabi sa performance ng sarili mo. Mahirap magbuhat ng sariling bangko, [kaya] itanong na lang natin sa pinagsisilbihan natin (It is hard to judge your own performance and even your self, so we would just like to ask those whom we serve), [but] of course, we serve at the pleasure of the President,” Angara said
