GLENN Banaguas, a world-renowned science diplomat and multi-awarded scientist, has been named one of the first Laureates of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award, alongside Prof. Hassan Shafik Abdullah of the University of East London.
Inaugurated in 2025 under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the award’s inaugural theme is “Green Technology Applications for Achieving Well-Being and Happiness for Humanity.” It honors individuals whose work advances sustainability, innovation, and human flourishing. The award includes one million Egyptian pounds, a gold medal, and a certificate of excellence, and will be conferred by President El-Sisi in February in Cairo.
Banaguas expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Board of Judges for the recognition. He described the honor as a tribute to resilience, stewardship, and service, emphasizing that true fulfillment lies in serving humanity with humility and courage.
As the first Filipino Laureate of this prestigious award, Banaguas’s recognition highlights the growing importance of science diplomacy and sustainability leadership in bridging nations and strengthening global resilience.
