MANILA, Philippines — Students in the upland village of Alas-Asin in Tanay, Rizal, often trek for up to an hour before sunrise just to reach school, a daily challenge compounded by poverty and limited access to resources.
To ease their journey and enhance learning, supermarket chain Puregold Price Club Inc. recently delivered a comprehensive support package to Alas-Asin Elementary School under its “Pusong Panalo” program.
The initiative included the installation of solar panels for a reliable power source, health and dental checkups, school supplies for students, and grocery packs for families.
Puregold also built a playground for the community’s children and provided livelihood packages to support teachers and families.
School head Marvie Guinto said that the aid delighted the students, who were also given clothes and slippers.
Alas-Asin Elementary is the sixth school to benefit from the 2025 run of the Pusong Panalo program. Launched in 2024, the initiative has already reached eight schools nationwide and aims to support 30 more by 2028, providing urgent aid such as learning technology, classroom renovations, and solar panel installations.
“Puregold believes that education is the key to a better life. For these children, this school represents their hope for a brighter future. We came here to provide better tools and facilities so these students can achieve their dreams,” Puregold President Vincent Co said in a statement.
The program continues to seek schools in need, driven by the principle that every Filipino child with a “gintong pangarap (golden dream)” deserves a fighting chance.
