1971 Honda SL125 Motosport at No Reserve

This 1971 Honda SL125 was acquired by the seller in 2022 and refurbished in 2025. Work included refinishing the bodywork in candy emerald green and the frame in silver as well as refreshing the 122cc SOHC single and five-speed transmission, recovering the solo seat, replacing the fuel tank, tires, drive chain, battery, and assorted other parts, and overhauling the carburetor, petcock, fork, wire-spoke wheels, and more. Equipment includes a kick starter, an upswept exhaust system, a chrome cross-braced handlebar, trail lighting, high-mount fenders, and a side stand. This SL125 is now offered at no reserve with refurbishment photos and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bike was repainted in candy emerald green paint with clear coat and black and white graphics under current ownership, at which time the frame was refinished in silver. Features include a chrome chain guard, trail lighting, high-mount fenders, and a side stand. The seller states assorted hardware was re-plated or polished, the black vinyl solo seat was recovered, and the fuel tank and cap are replacement items, along with foot peg rubber, side cover badges, and side cover and fender grommets. The seller states the Herb Friedlander Honda license plate holder was installed on the bike circa 1971.

The 21″ front and 18″ rear wheels received re-plated spokes and were mounted with replacement tubes and a 2.75″-wide Nitto tire up front and a 3.50″-wide Shinko Golden Boy out back. The telescopic fork has been overhauled with replacement seals and oil along with polished lowers, and paired with dual chrome shocks mounted to the swingarm. Braking is handled by drums with replacement shoes at each end.

The chrome cross-braced handlebar carries dual mirrors and is mounted aft of a Nippon Seiki 80-mph speedometer and a matching tachometer with a 9,500-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer indicates 2,300 miles, approximately 200 of which were added under the current ownership, with the majority of the mileage accrued before the refurbishment, according to the seller. The black grips and bright levers are replacement items, and the cables were oiled and adjusted in the refurbishment.

The air-cooled 122cc SOHC single was disassembled, according to the seller, and the head and cases were vapor blasted and received replacement rings, gaskets, Viton valve guide seals, case hardware, and hand-lapped valves. Additional work included overhauling both the carburetor and petcock, re-casing the wiring harness, and replacing the fuel lines, battery, spark plug, and air filter. Additional equipment includes a kick starter and an upswept exhaust system, which was refinished in high-temp matte black paint with a bright heat shield.

The engine number is shown above, and the VIN plate and stamp showing SL1251021649 are captured in the gallery.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a multi-plate wet clutch, a five-speed transmission with replacement gaskets, and a replacement drive chain.

Several photos of the build process are presented in the gallery.
