Convener of the Esan worldwide community, Aigbokhan Oseremen, has stated why the is upsurge of insecurity in the Edo State.
Speaking during an interview on ‘The Morning Brief’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Oseremen attributed the surge of insecurity to some Fulani herdsmen who are deep inside the forest.
He said: “So, you see, before we actually talk about what is happening right now, we actually need to look at what has been happening for quite some time.
“You see, we have this problem of insecurity because of some few factors we discovered.
“One of the reasons we feel this insecurity is really growing so wild is because of some Fulani herdsmen that are deep inside the forest.
“Some years back, we understood that these Fulani herdsmen, we allowed them into our lands, they live just around the neighborhood, but right now, as we speak, deep down inside the forest, they have settlements. Real large settlements where they have their kids.
“There are several times where we go into these bushes and we see them with their settlements. Now, this is one of the problems we are having in Esan land.
“Now, first and foremost, initially, it started from Uromi. And right now, we are able to water it down because of the way we are able to make a whole lot of publicity. Some of our vigilantes started acting on that.
“But right now, as we speak, there is a high rate of kidnapping daily in Ekpoma. This is a trend. Yesterday, after the protest, we also heard that yesterday, there was a kidnapping case yesterday in Ekpoma.”
