The Saatva Classic offers a balance of attainable pricing and luxury design. The mattress construction begins with a 3-inch Euro pillow top crafted from organic cotton. Below that is zoned memory foam support for enhanced pressure relief and spinal alignment, followed by a dual-coil system that combines individually wrapped comfort coils with a durable base layer for longevity and optimal airflow.

Several performance aspects stood out in my testing. The mattress excels in temperature regulation, making it an excellent option for warm sleepers. The edge support proved exceptional thanks to high-density foam reinforcement around the perimeter — a crucial feature for couples sharing a bed. Yet, motion isolation testing showed some limitations. While everyday movements weren’t particularly disruptive, standardized tests using bowling balls and vibrometer readings indicated average performance in this category.

It’s customizable and best for back and stomach sleepers. The Classic offers substantial customization options for different sleep preferences, available in 11.5- and 14.5-inch profiles and three firmness levels — Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. As a side sleeper testing the Luxury Firm model, I found insufficient give for optimal spinal alignment, though back-sleeping experiences were notably better. Saatva Zenhaven

The Saatva Zenhaven is a dual-sided latex mattress. This intriguing natural latex mattress has a flippable dual-sided design, with one side described as Luxury Plush and the other as Gentle Firm. It also boasts impressive eco-credentials, including GOTS-certified organic wool and organic cotton.

The latex is breathable. The five-zone natural latex layer incorporates vented airflow channels for breathability. This attention to heat dissipation proved effective during testing, aided by the moisture-wicking properties of the wool layer and the naturally cooling organic cotton cover. The durable latex core provided a solid foundation, contributing to impressive edge support.

We didn’t love the flippable design. The mattress’s dual-sided design, marketed as Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm, was disappointing. Both sides exhibited firmer-than-expected feels, with less distinguishable difference between them than advertised. This firmness profile is especially challenging for side sleeping, where insufficient pressure relief caused me occasional morning soreness, particularly in the leg and neck areas. While my sleep tracker showed average sleep quality scores, my detailed sleep notes revealed a pattern of interrupted rest.

Motion isolation testing yielded mixed results. The mattress performed adequately in real-world scenarios — I didn’t feel it much when my partner moved on the bed — but failed my standardized bowling ball test.

It’s best for hot sleepers and those who prefer a firm mattress. For those seeking an eco-friendly mattress with superior temperature control and edge support, the Zenhaven is a compelling option. However, side sleepers and those expecting true plush comfort might want to explore alternatives, as both sides trend firmer than average.

Saatva Contour5

The Contour5 is Saatva’s memory foam mattress. The Saatva Contour5 is a memory foam mattress available in medium and firm comfort options. The medium firmness has a cradling feel that’s ideal for side sleepers. It’s crafted with seven layers including various memory foams meant to cool, cradle, and support the body as well a layer with phase change material to absorb and dissipate body heat and lumbar support. The antimicrobial knit cover is made from organic cotton.

It’s plush and contouring. Reviews contributor Alex Temblador tested the Contour5 and found that its impressive body-contouring would most be appreciated by side sleepers who seek a soft, plush feel. For stomach and back sleepers, she recommends opting for the firm option, since the firmness skews a little softer than advertised.

It did well in our motion isolation tests. The Contour5 registered very low ratings on the vibrometer after a weight was dropped. Subjectively, our tester couldn’t feel movements from another person in the bed.

Where the Contour5 didn’t excel was cooling and edge support. Temblador slept warm on this mattress and felt uncomfortable when sitting on the edge. We recommend it for side sleepers who don’t sleep hot and prefer a plush mattress.

Saatva HD

The Saatva HD is specifically designed to support plus-size bodies between 300 and 500 pounds. It is most comparable to the Saatva Classic, but with an intentional design focus on extra durable materials, featuring high-density foams, latex for added durability, reinforced foam rails around the edges, and extra-thick steel coils that won’t sag.

As a heavy person myself, this is my favorite mattress of all time. Unlike other plus-size specific mattresses, which are often too firm for my liking, the Saatva HD had a perfect medium-firm feel that was comfortable in every sleeping position. It’s supportive, too — I felt noticeably pain-free when I awoke in the morning because my pressure points were cradled throughout the night.

It also performed well in all of our tests, especially excelling in motion isolation and edge support. Since I share the bed with my partner, motion isolation and edge support are both incredibly important to me. I never noticed his movements in the night, and felt comfortable even when I shifted towards the edge of the mattress. Echoing other Saatva mattresses that sleep cool, the bed doesn’t trap heat.

Saatva Solaire

The Solaire is adjustable, with 50 firmness settings. The Saatva Solaire Adjustable Firmness Mattress stands out in the adjustable air bed category, especially for couples seeking a mattress with customizable comfort and a substantial weight capacity. With its impressive 1,600-pound weight limit, the Solaire addresses a critical need while providing 50 comfort levels on each side of the bed — significantly outpacing the 20 settings found in Sleep Number beds.

The adjustability is incredible. The nuanced adjustability was a blessing and a learning experience during the testing period. The expansive 1-50 firmness scale allowed for precise tuning, though finding the perfect setting required some experimentation. For context, my optimal side-sleeping position was 27, while my wife preferred a firmer 37 setting for back sleeping. This versatility proved particularly valuable when back pain from physical activity made side sleeping uncomfortable. I could easily increase firmness for proper spinal alignment while sleeping on my stomach.

It has excellent edge support, but subpar motion isolation. The edge support shined in my tests, offering stable perimeter integrity for both reclined and seated positions. Yet, motion isolation was a notable limitation, with significant movement transfer across the surface — confirmed through both subjective testing and our standardized bowling ball test. For couples prioritizing motion isolation, the split mattress configuration might be a better solution. We tested the flex top king variant, which features a divided upper section while maintaining a connected lower portion.

It still offers zoned support for enhanced pressure relief while costing $180 less than the Classic. The core design difference is that the Classic has a dual-spring design with a thin high-density foam layer for lumbar support whereas the memory foam hybrid sandwiches the individually wrapped coils between a 1.5-inch gel-infused comfort layer and a one-inch base layer foam for support and durability. Unlike the Classic, though, it’s only available in one firmness and is particularly well-suited for side sleepers seeking plush comfort without sacrificing spinal alignment and also offers better motion isolation

The Classic is $400 less but is available in three firmness options. The Latex Hybrid just delivers a medium-firm feel that will appeal more to stomach and back sleepers.

Saatva Rx: Designed specifically for individuals with chronic pain conditions, the Saatva Rx features a specialized zoned micro-coil layer and Lumbar Zone Quilting for added support in the middle third of the mattress. Its unique combination of pressure-relieving AirCel memory foam and lumbar-focused coils targets pain points while maintaining optimal spinal alignment. Best suited for sleepers with arthritis, herniated discs, scoliosis, or sciatica, the supportive plush feel will likely be most comfortable for side sleepers, petite individuals, and older folks.

However, it shifted in the night, and the topper had poor motion isolation. Still, if you’re not ready to replace your mattress and want to upgrade its feel, this is a great option.
