Following reports of users running into audio issues when adjusting the volume on their Android phone, it looks like Google has now pinpointed the source of the problem, which is caused by an accessibility feature that’s built into the system.
According to an official post on Google’s official support forums, the problem is found in Android devices with the “Select to Speak” feature turned on, which then results in the volume keys not operating properly, such as adjusting the phone’s Accessibility volume instead of the Media volume, and refusing to take photos when using the camera app. As per the post:
We have received reports of volume keys not working as expected on Android devices that have Select to Speak, an accessibility service for users with low-vision or difficulty reading, enabled. For example, pressing the volume keys adjusts the phone’s Accessibility volume instead of the Media volume; and pressing a volume key while using the Camera does not snap a photo.
