MANILA, Philippines — Carl Tamayo posted 24 points as Changwon edged Busan, 109-101, in double overtime at the Korean Basketball League at Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan Friday.
Shooting 10-of-26 from the field, Tamayo also logged seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals for the defending champs LG Sakers.
This is the third straight game that the former UP Fighting Maroon scored over 20 points, all resulting in wins.
The 6-foot-7 Tamayo logged 30 against Wonju DB on December 21 and fired 23 against Kogas on Dec. 23.
A Mythical Team member last season, Tamayo has been averaging 17.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 30.5 minutes this year.
Tamayo and the LG Sakers grabbed their fourth straight win and 10th consecutive victory against the KCC Egis, who have another Filipino import in Will Navarro.
Navarro notched 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the loss, as Busan had its 7-game win run come to an end.
Tamayo’s Changwon improved to 18-6, keeping its firm grip atop the team standings.
Navarro’s Busan dropped to 16-9 for a share of second place with Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters, who feature another Filipino import in Rhenz Abando.
A former Ateneo Blue Eagle, Navarro has been logging 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 12.4 minutes per game for the Egis.
Tamayo and the LG Sakers on Dec. 28 face Abando’s Red Boosters.
