Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has singled out Victor Osimhen for praise following the Super Eagles 3-2 win over Tunisia on Saturday.
DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian national team were successful in the first and second matches of the tournament going on in Morocco.
Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola scored one each to take the Super Eagles to the round of sixteen of the tournament.
Tunisia pulled two back in the second half but their late efforts were not enough to earn them a point in the game as Eric Chelle’s team ran home with all three points.
Akpeyi, who was on punditry duties with Super Sports, noted that Osimhen showed commitment to the game, playing as both a striker and a defender.
“Well, so far, I think the Super Eagles have done well. Congratulations to them, they are top of their group, and they’ve qualified for the round of 16, which is a big one for Victor Osimhen,” he said.
“He has pulled his sleeves up, and he has fought really well, because there was a point in time when he was running from attack to defence, even running past the midfielders to go and defend.
“That’s how much passion he has for the team and how much he wants to actually play for the team.
“Although in the last minutes of the game our hearts almost dropped in our hands because of the way the Tunisians were coming and the impact players didn’t really give us as much as expected.
“But so far, we’re able to secure the three points, which is most important, that is what matters at the end of the day, irrespective of the results, the three points in the bag are.”
