Alex Eala of the Philippines absorbed a 6-4, 6-2 defeat over the world No.9 Mirra Andreeva of Russia in the MGM Macau Tennis Masters on Sunday afternoon at the Macau Forum.
Andreeva, who missed the doubles event in Macau as she was feeling under the weather, overpowered world No. 53 Eala in the singles event.
In her mixed doubles event yesterday, Eala and Juncheng Shang bowed to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain and Wu Yibing of China, 7-5, 7-6.
Andreeva was supposed to play with Wu in the mixed doubles, but was replaced by Fokina at the last minute.
Eala and Andreeva first played at the 2022 US Open Juniors quarterfinal round where the Filipino tennis sensation scored a 6-4, 6-0 victory en route to the title.
For her last tournament this year, Eala joined Team Li Na, the former World No. 2 netter, in the exhibition match, together with Ugo Humbert of France and Shang of China.
She and her team went against Team Conchita, Conchita Martinez, the first Spaniard to win a Wimbledon title, Andreeva, Fokina and Wu.
Eala clinched gold at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games last week, snapping a 26-year drought for the Philippines in women’s singles tennis.
