NSCDC Confirms Bandit Attack on Checkpoint in Niger


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Niger State Command has confirmed that bandits attacked its checkpoint along the Wawa–Babanla Road in Borgu Local Government Area.


The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, between 12:28 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., according to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muti.


A group of heavily armed bandits, whose exact number is yet to be ascertained, stormed the checkpoint and opened fire on the officers on duty. 


The personnel tactically withdrew from the scene and escaped without injuries.The attackers stole the officers’ personal belongings, vandalised an operational Hilux vehicle by deflating its tyres, and made away with one G3 rifle.


The checkpoint is situated about three kilometres from Wawa town and roughly nine kilometres from the 221 Armoured Brigade Barracks.


Muti stated that no casualties were recorded, and the NSCDC is collaborating with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and restore calm in the area.


The command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Niger State.
