This 1977 Datsun 280Z was acquired by the seller in 2014 and later fitted with a carbon-fiber Kamaru widebody kit from CarbonSignal of Dubai as well as a rebuilt L28 inline-six as part of a build completed from 2020 to 2024. Finished in VW-sourced Tornado Red, the car features a Speed Forme rear diffuser as well as a gray tail panel with custom taillights and rides on staggered-width 17″ Watanabe three-piece wheels coupled with BC adjustable coilovers at all four corners. Inside, the refreshed interior houses black vinyl–trimmed Recaro bucket seats accompanied by a competition-style steering wheel and Speedhut instrumentation. The engine breathes through triple Mikuni 44PHH carburetors and is said to be equipped with flat-top pistons, a high-lift camshaft, and a six-into-one exhaust header, while shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission. This modified 280Z is now offered with a California title in the seller’s name.

The car was fitted with a carbon-fiber Kamaru widebody kit from CarbonSignal by AK Airbrushing & Auto Body of Riverside, California, and repainted in Tornado Red, a Volkswagen color, as part of the aforementioned project. A Speed Forme rear diffuser and custom taillights were also added as part of the build. The red-finished bodywork is accented by a gray grille surround, front lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear tail panel.

The staggered-width 17″ Watanabe three-piece wheels feature gray centers as well as polished outer rims and are mounted with 275-width front and 315-width rear Toyo tires. The car rides on BC Racing adjustable coilovers and is fitted with Energy suspension bushings as well as larger anti-sway bars. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the steering rack is said to have been rebuilt as part of the project.

The Recaro Classic LX bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl upholstery and feature ventilation grommets. A replacement dash and microfiber headliner were also installed as part of the cabin refresh along with replacement black vinyl upholstery. The exposed floors are protected by black carpeted mats, and further details include an AM/FM radio, a locking glovebox, and an electric rear window defogger.

A competition-style steering wheel wears a Z-branded horn button and fronts retrofitted Speedhut instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer as well as centrally mounted auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The seller tells us that the gauges need to be calibrated. The digital odometer currently shows 137 miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.8-liter L28 inline-six is said to have been rebuilt by Rob’s Performance Garage prior to installation. The seller states that the triple Mikuni 44PHH carburetors were overhauled by Kyusha House of Houston, Texas, prior to installation and that additional installed components include flat-top pistons, a high-lift (.540″) camshaft, a six-into-one exhaust header, an aluminum fuel rail, and a Mishimoto aluminum radiator with dual electric puller fans.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. An upgraded clutch assembly from Action Clutch is said to be installed, and the fuel tank was reportedly cleaned as part of the project.

Assorted photos taken at various stages of the build are presented in the gallery.

Chassis number HLS30370019 is stamped to the body, and the removed chassis tag is included in the sale.
The car cannot pass a California emissions test, therefore it cannot be sold to an in-state private party buyer.
