MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday announced the cancellation of classes in all levels in public and private schools on January 9, the feast day of the Black Nazarene.
In the past, millions of people participated in the Traslacion or the annual procession that takes place on January 9.
Moreno signed Executive Order No. 1, series of 2026, suspending classes and work in all Manila city government offices for the annual procession.
He said the suspension aims to allow devotees to participate in the procession.
The mayor also signed EO No. 2 and 3, which respectively ban liquor within a 500-meter radius of the procession route and the sale of firecrackers from January 8 to 9.
