MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) has been spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.
The LPA, some 740 kilometers south-southwest of Kalayaan Island, Kalayaan, Palawan, was also unlikely to enter PAR as it is expected to move away, weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said.
“But its trough or extension has already been affecting areas in Palawan and the western section of Mindanao,” Dominquez said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the convergence of hot and cold air—shear line—was expected to dump heavy rain, particularly in the Bicol provinces.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms would be likely over Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Northern Samar due to the same weather system, the Pagasa weather forecaster said.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Visayas would experience a similar weather pattern, but due to the easterlies or winds that carry humid and warm weather, the national weather bureau said.
On the other hand, the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan,’ would prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, where partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains would occur, the latest Pagasa advisory indicated.
Isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies will be affecting the rest of Mindanao, it added.
