This 1984 Harley-Davidson XR1000 was purchased by its current owner, reportedly from its second owner, in 1994 with 1,800 miles on its odometer, and it has been kept on display in the time since. It is finished in Slate Gray and is powered by a 998cc V-twin paired with a four-speed transmission. Equipment includes alloy wheels, dual Dell’Orto carburetors, a high-mount exhaust system, mid-set foot controls, triple disc brakes, a solo seat, and electronic ignition. This XR1000 is now offered by the seller on behalf of its late owner’s estate with a clean New York title in the owner’s name.
The XR1000 was built on the heritage of The Motor Company’s race-winning XR750, and it was offered in 1983 and 1984 with a $6,995 price tag while the base Sportster carried a $3,995 sticker. This example is finished in Slate Gray with white pinstripes, and features include a black solo seat, mirrors, a black-finished chain guard, turn signals, and a side stand. The seller tells us that there is a scratch under the seat and that the brake light is stuck on.
Alloy nine-spoke wheels measuring 19″ up front and 16″ out back wear a set of older Dunlop tires. Suspension consists of a conventional fork as well as dual preload-adjustable shocks mounted to the swingarm. Braking is from dual discs up front and a single disc out back.
The black-finished handlebar below a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,200-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 1,800 miles, and the bike has not been ridden under current ownership.
The air-cooled 998cc Ironhead OHV V-twin was equipped with dual 36mm Dell’Orto carburetors with open-element air filters as well Jerry-Branch-developed cylinder heads and a high-mount dual exhaust system for a factory rating of 71 horsepower. The battery was replaced and the fluids changed in preparation for the sale. The baffles have been removed from the mufflers.
Power is routed to the rear wheel through a four-speed transmission and a drive chain.
