This 1972 Datsun 240Z was acquired by the seller as a non-running project circa 2014 and was subsequently built as a track car. Finished in red, the car is powered by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked with a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes triple sidedraft carburetors, a tubular header, a 2.5″ exhaust system, an aluminum radiator, a 15-gallon fuel cell, aluminum lower control arms, adjustable coilovers, Wilwood disc brakes, 15″ Rota alloy wheels, a ZTrix widebody kit, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, a roll cage, a Sparco racing seat, a multi-point harness, a quick-release steering wheel, and an ESS fire suppression system. Previously listed on BaT in April 2021, this modified 240Z was last tracked in January 2021 for a NASA 14-hour endurance race at Laguna Seca and is now being offered with a NASA logbook, spare parts and wheels, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

A ZTrix fiberglass widebody kit was installed before the body was refinished under current ownership in red. Exterior details include LED headlights, a vented hood, hood pins, pillar-mounted side mirrors, a sunroof plug, a rear spoiler, front and rear tow points, and a single exhaust outlet with a turn-out finisher. Damage to the left quarter panel resulting from on-track contact was repaired under current ownership.

The 15″ Rota alloy wheels with black centers and polished lips are mounted with Toyo Proxes RR tires. The suspension is modified with adjustable front camber plates, aluminum lower control arms, and adjustable coilovers with 400-lb spring rates. Stopping power is handled by front and rear Wilwood disc brake kits.

The stripped cockpit houses a roll cage with door bars as well as a single Sparco Ergo racing seat, a multi-point harness, a window net, an ESS fire suppression system, and auxiliary switch panels.

The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub. Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and air/fuel ratio. The digital odometer indicates 3,400 miles, and total mileage is unknown.

The displacement of the retrofitted L28 inline-six was reportedly increased to 2.9 liters by Rebello Racing in Antioch, California, and the build features the following components:
- Pistons with 10.1:1 compression ratio
- Triple DCOE carburetors
- Six foam air filters
- Tubular header and 2.5″ exhaust system
- Champion aluminum radiator
- Dual electric cooling fans
- ATL 15-gallon fuel cell
- Dual fuel pumps
- Solid engine mounts
Results from a 2019 dyno test show peak power ratings of 275 horsepower and 244 lb-ft of torque.

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a lightweight flywheel, an ACT clutch, a five-speed manual transmission, and an R180 differential with 4.11:1 gearing as well as Ermish Racing axles. Solid transmission and differential mounts and Bad Dog frame rail reinforcements are installed. Areas of the floors have been repaired, and additional underside photos are presented in the gallery.

The VIN on the current California title matches the replacement identification number shown above.
