THE cost of power in the spot market averaged P4.38 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in December 2025, up by 10.1 percent from P3.98 per kWh in November, the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) reported on Wednesday.
The increase will be reflected in the January billing of consumers.
The price hike was mostly due to continued supply tightness in the Visayas and a drop in supply in Mindanao due to forced outages during the period, despite an increase in the average electricity supply, said IEMOP corporate planning and communications manager Arjon Valencia.
In Luzon, the average electricity cost was at P2.98 per kWh in December, a drop from P3.52 per kWh in November.
Average supply was at 14,422 MW in December, an increase from 14,050 MW in the previous month. Average demand declined to 9,324 MW in December from 9,598 MW in November.
In the Visayas, the average power cost in December was P7.22 per kWh, or P1.93 higher than P5.29 per kWh in November.
Average supply was at 2,524 MW in December, a slight increase from 2,418 MW in November. Demand also grew to 1,978 MW from 1,797 MW in the same comparative period.
In Mindanao, the average price rose by P2.83 to P7.82 per kWh in December from P4.99 per kWh in November.
Supply dropped to 3,287 MW in December from 3,532 MW in November, while demand was 2,137 MW in December, up from 2,112 MW in November.
