President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman to head the institution since its founding in 1962.
The appointment, announced on January 6, 2026, by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, takes effect on January 10 for a four-year term.
Dr. Odusote will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, whose eight-year tenure concludes on January 9.
Currently serving as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, Dr. Odusote brings decades of experience in legal education and scholarship.
A seasoned academic, she earned her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She obtained an LL.M. in company and commercial law from the same institution and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, UK, focusing on Public Law and the administration of justice.
Joining the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer, Dr. Odusote has risen through the ranks, serving as head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus.
She has also been a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.Her contributions extend beyond teaching: she has published widely in local and international law journals, presented at numerous conferences, and served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
In her new role, Dr. Odusote will oversee the academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across its campuses.
She will also act as the key liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
The appointment has been hailed as a significant step toward gender inclusivity in Nigeria’s legal education sector.
