United States President Donald Trump has announced that Venezuela’s interim government has consented to transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of premium crude oil to the United States.
Trump revealed this development on Wednesday through his Truth Social account.
The oil currently classified as sanctioned—would be sold at prevailing international market prices.
According to him, the revenue generated from the sales would be overseen by his administration and applied in ways that benefit both Venezuelan and American citizens.
He also said he had directed US Energy Secretary Chris Wright to act quickly to put the agreement into effect.
“I am pleased to announce that the Interim Government in Venezuela has agreed to turn over 30-50 million barrels of ‘high-quality, sanctioned oil’ to the United States,” he wrote on Truth Social.
The announcement comes in the wake of a recent US military operation under Trump’s leadership, which led to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Maduro was later taken to the United States to stand trial on drug-related charges.
Following his arrest, Venezuela’s Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, was sworn in as the country’s interim president.
