MANILA, Philippines — The celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene has begun as the “andas” or the carriage carrying the image makes its way on the streets of Manila toward Quiapo Church.
A mass officiated by Bishop Rufino Sescon Jr. of the Diocese of Balanga was held at the Quirino Grandstand at 4 a.m. on Friday.
The Traslacion or procession is expected to draw millions of devotees who believe in the miraculous powers of the Nazarene.
Government and security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace and order.
