MANILA, Philippines — A photojournalist covering the Feast of the Black Nazarene died on Friday due to a heart attack.
Armelito “Itoh” Son managed to cover the pre-Traslacion events, including the “Pahalik” or the veneration of the image of the Black Nazarene, before his death.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Armelito M. Son… We kindly ask for privacy this evening as we spend this time with his immediate family,” a statement from the family posted on social media said.
“We are truly grateful for your prayers, understanding, support, heartfelt condolences, and love during this time of mourning,” it added.
The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) extended its condolences to the family of Son, who worked for the tabloid Saksi.
“His dedication to his profession despite his illness is a testament to his love for his work and his commitment to delivering important events to the public. His invaluable service in the field of photojournalism will serve as an inspiration to others,” the PTFoMS said on Friday in Filipino.
“May this also serve as a reminder to all media workers to remain vigilant about their health and safety while carrying out their duties. Amid deep dedication, let us not forget the importance of self-care so we can continue serving with caution and compassion for others,” it added.
