Over 400 devotees have been sidelined from the Traslacion, or procession of the image of the Black Nazarene, in Manila. According to the Philippine Red Cross, most of the devotees were treated for minor cases of dizziness, minor wounds, abrasions, and sprains. Ten devotees suffered more serious injuries, such as deep lacerations and punctures. Fourteen have been transported to hospitals. Around one thousand 200 staff and volunteers have been deployed for the Traslacion. Meanwhile, a photojournalist died while covering the annual event. He was identified as Armelito “Itoh” Son, who died of a heart attack.

As of this morning, the PNP has not recorded any incidents of criminality and violence during the procession of the Black Nazarene. Over 18,000 law enforcement forces were deployed to secure what is popularly known as the Traslacion. The PNP says most police personnel are equipped with body-worn cameras. The Manila Police District says authorities will practice maximum tolerance in securing peace and order during the festivities. However, police warn that those who will violate bans on firearms, liquor, firecrackers, and other prohibitions would answer to the law.

One person was killed while seven others were injured when a landfill collapsed in Barangay Binaliw in Cebu City. At least 27 others are missing. One of the buildings hit by the wall of garbage that cascaded down was a warehouse. This is where workers separated recyclable waste and rubbish. Rescuers retrieved eight people alive, but one of them died while being brought to a hospital. Search and rescue efforts were continuing for the missing.

Gasoline and diesel prices are expected to slightly go down next week. According to local oil industry sources, gasoline prices could either have no change or decrease by about 20 centavos per liter. Diesel prices, meanwhile, are estimated to go down by around 10 to 30 centavos per liter.
Filipino tennis star Alex Eala advances to the women’s singles semifinals of the ASB Classic in New Zealand. Eala defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 6–3, 6–2 in their quarterfinal showdown. The 20-year-old tennis ace faces China’s Xinyu Wang in the final four.
