What game is great but would be amazing if it had a better story?

My suggestion : The Armored Core serie. The games are generally great, the designs and mechanics are well thought out and solid. Mech customization is incredible, the level designs interresting and engaging. But I always felt it was a niche game and not widely acclaimed.

Why? Lackluster story (good but mot engaging), lackluster voice acting and no characters representation except for voices and logos. If it had these, I always felt it would be a legendary game.

Secret level confirmed this with is episode on AC. Everything I felt Armored core could improve was in that episode.

Are there other great games you feel would be masterpieces if more thought would be put into the story?
