This Crawford Composites FL15 is a race car that was constructed in 2015 for use in the Formula Lites single-spec racing series. The car features a carbon-fiber honeycomb monocoque chassis and is powered by a 2.4-liter Honda Performance Development K24 inline-four paired with a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox. Equipment includes GEMS Performance electronics, an ATL Racing fuel cell, and Penske Racing coilover dampers with remote reservoirs in addition to four-wheel disc brakes, 13″ Fikse center-lock wheels, pneumatic paddle shifters, and a carbon-fiber multifunction steering wheel with an LCD screen. This Crawford Composites FL15 was purchased by the current owner in 2018, and it is now offered on dealer consignment in California, with a spare set of four wheels, a battery tender, a car cover, and a bill of sale.
Denver, North Carolina-based Crawford Composites was founded by Max Crawford in 1988, and became the first US-based non-aerospace company to manufacture a composite-bodied race car, the Mazda RX7-92P of 1992. Crawford, IndyCar team owner Denis McCormack, and driver Ryan Arciero developed the Formula Lites series for 2015, which was sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing and ran for a single season. The series exclusively featured the FL-15, which was developed under 2014 FIA F3 technical regulations.
The carbon-fiber honeycomb monocoque is fitted with removable body panels incorporating a central engine air intake as well as front and rear wings, dual side-view mirrors, and a rear rain light. Chips on the front wing and wood underbody panel can be seen in the gallery.
Black-finished 13″ Fikse center-lock wheels feature Formula Lites branding, and they are mounted with 200/540 front and 250/575 rear Pirelli slicks. A spare set of four wheels with Pirelli slicks is included in the sale, and it can be seen in the gallery. The suspension incorporates double A-arms and Penske Racing coilover dampers with remote reservoirs. Braking is handled by discs at all four corners.
The cockpit houses a fabricated seat fitted with an Impact harness. The carbon-fiber multifunction steering wheel is fitted with an LCD screen, and it is mounted on a quick-release hub. The car is not equipped with an odometer, and total mileage is unknown.
All Formula Lites cars were powered by a 2.4-liter Honda Performance Development K24 inline-four. The engine is controlled by a GEMS Performance ECU, and the car is equipped with an ATL Racing fuel cell.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox paired with a carbon-fiber pneumatic paddle shift system developed by Crawford Composites.
A chassis tag and an SCCA Pro Racing decal are affixed to the car.
The car is not legal for road use and does not have a title. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
