The commenters in the BaT community make this site the best place on the Internet (in our humble opinion), even more than any fantastic machine ever could. The knowledge, humor, and openness we see here every day is truly something special. Our community has proven its benefit countless times for buyers, sellers, and the mechanically and historically curious. We’re always learning new things from you in the discussion threads, which is why Most Valuable Commenter has been a category in the BaT Awards since we started them back in 2011.
Last year’s prize was awarded to resident counselor, cheerleader, and occasional poet Stratos, who we were able to talk to in person at a 2024 BaT Alumni Event. Who will it be this year? Make your nominations in the comments below.
Here’s how it works:
To nominate, leave a comment with a link to the profile of the user—and feel free to include examples of their commentary. Use the search function to find a particular user, or click on their username in any comments thread to open their profile page. Honorable mentions are welcome, but please be sure to cast an official vote for only one commenter. Previous winners of any BaT Award are not eligible.
Nominations are open until midnight on Sunday, January 11. We’ll tally the votes next Monday, and the top three will move on to final voting. For inspiration, here are other previous winners who have been recognized by the community:
