1997 Land Rover Defender 110 Pickup 2.8i 5-Speed

This Marine Blue 1997 Land Rover Defender 110 is one of 739 built for the South African market between 1997 and 2002 with a 2.8-liter BMW M52 gasoline inline-six, and it is a three-door pickup with a soft top. The right-hand-drive vehicle was acquired by the seller in 2020, and it was refurbished in 2024. In addition to body and interior refreshes, the work involved overhauling its engine, driveline, suspension, and brakes. The truck features a body-colored grille and wheel arch extensions, Series-style two-piece doors, and a NAS-style tubular rear bumper. Its custom interior has black Nappa leather, air conditioning, a Marshall sound system with Bluetooth, and inward-facing rear jump seats. An R380 five-speed manual transmission and a locking center differential are additional elements. This M52-powered Defender 110 is offered with a clean North Carolina title in the name of the seller’s company that lists it as a 1998 model.

The seller reports that components were acid-dipped before the body was refinished in Marine Blue during the refurbishment, and the project also included replacing or installing the following components:

  • Series doors, door tops, and locks
  • Stainless-steel bolt kit
  • Windscreen & windscreen rubber, air vent rubbers
  • Sealing to windscreen & door corners
  • Door hinges, rubbers, weatherstripping, & grab handles
  • Wiper arms & blades, Mirror arms & heads
  • Hood sticks & heavy-duty soft top
  • Filler neck & hose, fuel cap & key
  • Bonnet cable
  • Swinging tailgate
  • Chassis cross-member plate

The suspension was equipped during the refurbishment with Terrafirma dampers as well as replacement hardware and bushings, and the tie-rod ends were replaced along with the steering damper. The 16″ steel wheels are mounted with 285/75 BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires, and four-wheel disc brakes provide stopping power.

The cabin has extended black Nappa leather, air conditioning, a Marshall Acton III sound system with Bluetooth, and inward-facing rear benches with lap belts.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts the instrument cluster, which has a 200-km/h speedometer with a digital odometer showing 201k kilometers (~125k miles).

The BMW 2.8-liter inline-six was factory rated at 192 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The seller tells us its water pump, thermostat, ignition coils, fuel injectors, and air filter housing were replaced in 2024, and the air conditioning was overhauled.

A stainless-steel exhaust system is fitted, and the drivetrain has an R380 five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case with a locking center differential, and replacement driveshafts.

The Carfax report lists history beginning in May 2025.
