The Reddy Kilowatt character was created by Ashton Collins Sr., the commercial manager of Alabama Power Company, and debuted in a 1926 advertisement in The Birmingham News. The inspiration for the character reportedly came from a dramatic Alabama lightning storm. Details on this sign include Reddy Kilowatt with a lightbulb nose, safety shoes and gloves, lightning bolts on the arms, legs, and antennae, and two-pronged wall outlets for the ears.
Hand-blown glass tubes illuminate the character sign and are powered by a 120-volt cord with an inline on/off switch.
The sign has a black-finished metal frame, and pre-drilled mounting brackets secure the sign to the wooden shipping pallet.
